We also made it to the library this week for Mother Goose Time on Tuesday, which is always fun. Story time is nice, because it's a little more passive, which is more up Connor's alley, because he's a little shy and pensive. We sing songs, do some parachute games, read a story, watch bubbles, and play with toys and other kids. It's just pretty relaxed and fun.
On Thursday, we spent all afternoon at our friend Jessica's house with her 6 month old son Jack. I don't know what it is about their house, but he always naps very well over there. I told her, I'm coming every week. Ha!
We also were able to take a few walks, because both Thursday and Friday were nice days. It's been rainy and cold again, so we've been stuck inside a lot or if we do run errands, it's such a nuisance bringing a baby in and out of the rain. I never really appreciated Mom's carting their kids around in the rain until now. Boy is it challenging.
I titled this blog "Chunky Monkey...literally" because on Friday, Connor wore an outfit Grandma and Grandpa got him for Christmas and it's kind of funny. It's got these green stripped pants with a monkey on the booty and a matching onesie. Both Jeff and I just couldn't help but smile when we saw him in the outfit. We call him chunky monkey quite a bit (for obvious reasons) and this outfit just accented his chub so nicely.
On Saturday, the day started out great. Connor slept OK and had a good morning. After his first nap, we all went out to lunch at this really family friendly lunch spot we just found. The food was good and Connor had fun checking everything out. He even got a few samples of the top of our hamburger buns. He is really getting good at feeding himself finger foods and it's just so adorable to watch.
Saturday evening though, was a little rough. As you can imagine, I've been watching Connor like a hawk to see if he's developing any symptoms similar to mine from a week ago and until last night, he had seemed OK. He would occasionally grab his ear, but not often enough to really worry and he never had a fever, so I didn't panic...yet.
Well unfortunately, things went downhill Saturday night. After we put him to bed, both Jeff and I could hear him stirring occasionally, which isn't like him. Once he's down for the night, you don't hear a peep normally until the morning. We were a little concerned, but he was falling back asleep so we didn't do anything.
Then, at 11pm, as Jeff and I were heading to bed, Connor woke up crying. I went in to check on him and sure enough, he had a 102.6 fever. He was also tugging at his ears, so I knew he was in pain, which made me so sad for him. Poor boy.
I gave him some tylenol and then tried to nurse him back to sleep. Unfortunately that didn't work. As soon as I put him back to bed, he cried. So I rocked with him for a while and then I woke up Jeff asking for some back up, because I was starting to feel a little helpless. Jeff and I both tried to get a very tired, but very irritable Connor back to sleep. At about 3:30am I nursed him again and he fell asleep on my lap for about 20 minutes until I tried to move him to his crib and he woke up and cried. It was so frustrating, because I knew he was exhausted, but he wouldn't sleep.
At about 5am, Jeff somehow got him to fall asleep on his chest and we both agreed we could try to move him to his crib, and luckily this time, he went to sleep until about 9am. Wow, it was tough. I honestly don't think he's ever, even when he was a newborn, been up for that long in the middle of the night.
During the day today though, he was actually acting kind of normal. He did take a long nap for the first one of the day, but overall, he didn't have a fever and was pretty mellow. I still plan on taking him to the pediatrician tomorrow (better safe than sorry after my recent illness), and I'm praying tonight will be better, but I was pleased to see that he didn't get worse today.
Sadly, this little episode did throw a kink in our Super Bowl plans, (hence the reason I am home blogging and not out super bowl partying). Jeff and I went over to our friends house for a little while, but then I took Connor back home after about an hour, so I could get him ready for bed in his own room. I was just worried after last night how his sleeping would be, so we figured we should probably have him at home. Oh well, it's not so bad having some quiet time to myself, and I'm sure I didn't need those Miller Lites anyway. What I really need is sleep. Good night my blog family. I'll let you know what the pediatrician discovers tomorrow. For now, enjoy some cute Connor pics.
This picture is kind of blurry without the flash, but I just love this smirking kind of smile. So cute.
In this one, you can see his top teeth exposed. They are really prominent now.
This is the back of the "Chunky Monkey" outfit. Isn't it cute.
I'm pretty sure he's "talking" in this one. That is his "talking" face. His favorite sound is "guh."
Here we are at lunch on Saturday at this new place we tried in Sugar Land called Live Oak Grill. It had great casual food and a great, family-friendly atmosphere. It was so casual, Connor could even sit on the table while we waited for our food to arrive.
Oh and I've found a nice trick to keep Connor entertained at restaurants...straws. He likes chewing on them and granted, they aren't the safest toys (choking hazard, yes), but he's happy, so Mommy's happy.
Connor is now eating more finger foods. We even let him have a few chunks off the top of our hamburger buns. He seemed to really like it.
Connor is growing every day and we continued the monkey theme by putting him in 12 month sized jammies. Remember, he's only 7 months old! I like this picture, because I think he is literally seeing how big he can puff out his cheeks. Wow!
For a while, we couldn't keep Connor from grabbing and chewing on his books, but now we just make sure he has another toy to chew on at his disposal and he has gone back to actually looking at the books we read him, not just chewing on them. The boy has got to be chewing, let me tell ya.
These pics are ADORABLE!! He is so happy, I just love his smile in his cute monkey outfits!
