I think we made it through day two with little Connor.
It was a big day for Connor in many ways.
1st, he was examined by the pediatrician again and was given very high marks. All signs are pointing to what I had expected all along...that he's perfect.
2nd, my doctor examined me and said I am doing well and my incision looked great.
3rd, that same doctor took my little boy down to get circumcised. Those motherly instincts really took hold, because I was so nervous for him and it made me so sad to think of him going through that, despite the fact that the doctor assured me it was a fairly routine procedure. As it turned out, Connor did fine and his circumcision was as smooth as can be.
4th, Connor dealt with the emotional pain of being circumcised by sleeping steadily throughout the day. He was totally conked out.
5th, Connor wooed many captivated visitors who came to meet him for the first time at the hospital.
6th, Connor started really getting the hang of nursing. We are still learning together, but there were a few feedings that really made me smile and think, "You know, I think we can do this." That kind of reassurance is like gold to a first time Mom.
7th, Connor convinced me that many of the baby books are right. Many babies confuse their days with nights, because Connor is a true night owl. Instead of lulling off to dreamland after nursing, he stayed awake and alert and wanted to be held all night. Suffice it to say, Momma didn't get much sleep. I guess day time naps will be critical in my future.
8th, Connor pulled at our heartstrings and made Jeff and I say, "Look how cute he is" about once every time we were around him...so basically all day.
All in all, we are doing well and are happy to be home. We were discharged from the hospital around 12pm today and I'm relishing the reduced pop ins from well meaning nurses and hospital staff. We are pretty relaxed and ready to start our new little life in Sugar Land.

In case you have met Connor and didn't think he cried...think again.

Congrats guys!!! He looks perfect. We are very excited for you and your new addition!
ReplyDeleteCongrats! He's beautiful. I'm so happy for your family. Thank you, Jeff, for emailing pictures out after Connor was born. I'm looking forward to keeping up with yall on your blog. Although I'm sure you are transitioning into parenthood perfectly with no speed bumps and plenty of sleep, I know things are slightly busy right now. When the dust settles in a few weeks and you feel like being waited on, I'd love to come meet Connor and bring you guys some dinner. I'll get in touch.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Small world...I went to high school with Anthony Zaccari.
