Connor Dean Treadway was born on June 19th at 12:22am. What is even more surprising is that he weighed 9 pounds 5 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.
His size might explain the fact that we were induced at 7AM Thursday morning the 18th, but he did not make his grand appearance until first thing Friday morning. We made every effort to deliver vaginally, but Connor was transverse (on his side) and despite pushing for 2 hours, he wouldn't make a turn. Jeff was right there with me and did his best to help me get through labor, even during points when I didn't think I had an ounce of energy left to go on.
With the transverse position, we finally had no choice but to have a cesarean section. Jeff and I were both fine with that decision, because I was exhausted by that point and the only concern we had was for a healthy baby. Within 15 minutes of being in the operating room, Connor was born and our doctor let Jeff announce "It's a boy."
I remember some of the people in the room saying, "Wow, that's a big baby," but it wasn't until Jeff told me he was 9 lbs. 5 oz. that I realized just how big he really was. It was also reassuring, because it was pretty clear at that point that transverse or not, Connor was not ever going to come out of me vaginally. I remember laying on the operating table watching him get wiped down and hearing him crying. It was a surreal experience, because I knew that was my son. As they say, it was one of the most amazing moments of my life.
Soon after, Jeff followed the nurse as they took Connor to the nursery for some initial clean up and tests and he got to announce to our awaiting parents (The Treadways were first time grandparents) that we had a new son and his name was Connor Dean. It was really special that they had waited for our news even though it was after midnight and they had been there for hours. My great friend Kendall joined them as well. It was really special to have them there.
We probably didn't have Connor back in our room until about 2:30 AM and he spent a pretty restful night with us. He slept pretty well, but we didn't. Despite the lack of sleep, it was hard to get even a minute of shut eye with our new son in the room, not to mention the barrage of nurses that came in about every hour to check on either me or Connor. When nurses weren't in the room, we just couldn't help but want to hold him and gaze at him and touch his amazingly soft little skin.
I am madly in love with him and he's not even a full day old. I love his full head of brown hair. I love his big soft cheeks. I love when he sort of squeaks. I love when he fights to open his eyes. I love how warm he is when you snuggle up with him. I love how he kind of looks like both me and Jeff. I love to see him in his Daddy's arms. Jeff is already a wonderful father and it just makes me smile to see them together. I basically love everything about Connor and I can't wait to find out more things to love about him as the days and years progress. We feel so blessed.
