Loon Lake Adventures

We spent two weeks in New York State at my family's lake home in Chestertown, NY. It is a small lake town in the middle of the woods. I have been spending summers there since I was a baby, so it's a very special place for me and my family. We have a home there, but at different points, other members of my Mom's side of the family are there too, mostly her sisters and my cousins and their children. It's fun and very low key.

I took over 400 pictures, but I made a Kodak album of about 220 if you want to see them all.

Otherwise, below are a select number from our wonderful trip.

Our first day at Loon Lake, hanging out in the kitchen.

My family likes going out to breakfast and we found this small place called the Deer Crossing Restaurant that we liked. Connor liked the pancakes and the little deer out front.

Enjoying our yummy breakfast.

Our walk down to the lake. Connor was such a big boy this year. It's a big hill, but he walked down and then back up by himself without a stroller. He would need to be picked up at the steep part of the hill, but that was it.

Our first boat ride in the new boat. Connor liked going fast. He even got boat hair.

What a cool dude.

It was a beautiful first day so we went swimming down at the lake. Here Jeff is jumping off the dock.

Connor got brave enough to jump off the dock. We do this countdown every time we jump and Connor really liked it. It goes, "1 for the money, 2 for the show, 3 to get ready, and 4 to go!"

Here is a video of Connor jumping off the dock.

In his floaties, Connor can actually swim on his own so we were practicing "swimming" from me to Grandpa.

Our first campfire.

Daddy helping Connor roast his first marshmallow.

He loved the s'more. He ate the whole thing.

Connor looking sassy on the back deck.

Connor, me, and Jeff road the Super Mable. We drove really slow, but we still bounced around a bit and Connor liked it. It was cute to hear him say, "Bouncy, bouncy."

We went to this place called "Natural Stone Bridge and Caves." It was really scenic and pretty, however we did have to hike around a bit, but Connor was a total trooper. Here we are posing in front of the raging rapids.

Taking a break at Inspiration Point.

Posing in front of a mountain man at Stone Bridge and Caves.

The next day, we hiked up Stewart Mountain. It is a really small mountain, but it's got a great view of the lake and I've been doing it every year since I was a kid.

A view from the top of Stewart Mountain looking at the lake.

Hanging out at the top of the mountain.

On the way down the mountain, it was pretty slippery, so we let him slide down on his butt in a few parts. It was like a natural slide. He loved it.

Connor and Daddy looking cute in the water.

Since Connor doesn't like to swim for that long, he really liked the sandbox by the lake.

One night, we had family up to our house for a little get together. Connor really liked his second cousins, 10 year old Noah and 12 year old Nick.

As you can see here, Connor's second cousins were really sweet to him.

On Nick's last day at the lake, he caught a 3 pound bass, right off of the dock. We don't get many big fish in the lake, so we were all pretty amazed. The man on the right is his Dad Tom, my cousin Shannon's husband. They live in Ohio and are big Ohio State fans, but amazingly enough, I still like them. Hee hee.

Playing some hoops with Daddy and second cousin Nick.

Connor was acting silly one night in the rain. I think he was just shocked to see rain at all.

The whole way down to the lake, there are wild blackberries growing and it's sort of a right of passage to pick your own right off the bush. Connor loved it.

The boys hanging out at the marina getting gas.

Grandpa and Connor bouncing together.

The day after Jeff left, we rode down to Saratoga to visit my Grandma, Connor's Great Grandma, in a nursing home. She seemed to really enjoy seeing Connor and watching his funny antics. He also showed off his singing, which she particularly liked.

Here is a video of Connor singing his ABC's to his Great Grandma. He has gotten much better since this video was taken. He can now sing it completely and it sounds pretty good.

After visiting my grandma, we went to Friendly's, which is sort of like Chili's up North, but the best part is they are known for their ice cream sundaes. I always get a peanut butter cup sundae. Yummy. Connor liked it too.

Jeff took all the good weather with him, because after he left it was cloudy and even a bit chilly every day. Since it wasn't a good lake day, we took Connor miniature golfing in Lake George at this place called Pirate's Cove. It was pirate themed and Connor learned that a pirate says, "Arrrgh." He sounded so cute when he said it.

We started playing with the idea that if Connor got bored we would go home. Well, of course since Connor loves golf, he stayed and played all 18 holes and since the course was so crowded it took us nearly 2 hours. That boy loves his golf.

Here is me and Connor posing after his first ever hole in one! It was amazing.

On one of our evening cruises, Connor took a hand at driving the boat.

Connor liked our evening happy hours on the boat, especially because of the snacks on board. Not bad.

At dinner, Grandma and Grandpa had a kiss attack on Connor. He didn't seem to mind.

Connor acting silly with Grandpa. Check out the clothes he's wearing. He won't be wearing sweatshirts and jeans for quite some time here at home. The high was about 80 and the lows were in the 60's.

We had my Aunt Karen up on one of our last nights and Connor was a charmer at dinner. We started eating our meals with him and he seemed to do OK with it. We have continued that trend now that we're back at home and it's working out great. We all like family dinner and it's so nice to have dinner done and cleaned up by 7pm every day.

On our last day, Connor took his final row boat ride. He liked when we rowed out and touched the buoys.

Picking blackberries with Grandma.

Our last day was finally really sunny and beautiful so we floated out on the boat. Goodbye Loon Lake. See you next year.

Kansas City Wedding

OK, so first I should apologize for the long blog hiatus. We traveled to Kansas and New York for 2 weeks and when I got home (two weeks ago), I just never found the time to blog. In an effort to get the ball rolling, I am going to bust out two blogs at once, but I'll probably save any updates on our sweet little Connor for another time. For now, I will just post some pics and let the captioning do the rest.

For the record though, he is doing great and has taken up singing, which is freaking adorable as you can imagine. He starts back at Mother's Day Out church school this coming Tuesday, so that's exciting too (for both of us). Also, it is insanely hot out (temps in the 100's), making any attempts at outdoor activitiy miserable. Every Texan will be ready for this oppressive heat to end.

So back to the blog at hand. On our way out to New York, we stopped over in Kansas City for the weekend to attend Jeff's cousin Kory's wedding. We had a great time enjoy the pics.

We had some time Saturday morning before the wedding, so we ventured off to see "Outdoor World."

There were lots of taxidermied animals and some live fish. Here we are looking at all the fish.

Connor shows no fear touching this big, brown bear.

We also stopped by the groom's parent's house (Jeff's Aunt and Uncle) and as we were leaving, Connor got to shoot a few hoops.

Connor got to attend the wedding (we had a babysitter for the reception), so we dressed him up in his Sunday finest. Doesn't he look dapper with Pagger Don?

Walking into the church for pictures.

We had to take a family picture, but luckily the church nursery was open, so we played in there until it was our turn. Man, what a relief.

Here Connor is perusing the wedding program before the wedding ceremony begins.

After the ceremony, we all blew bubbles at the bride and groom as they left for the reception. Here, Connor and Gigi are having fun with the bubbles. Connor still doesn't quite have the "blowing bubbles with a wand" thing mastered, but he likes to chew on the wand. Does that count?

The wedding reception was great. It was held at a country club and we all had fun drinking, eating, and dancing. Connor apparently was a little cherub for his babysitter. What great news.
