We've been to a lot of different parks and last weekend, we enjoyed a beautiful morning at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. It comes to the city for about a month every March and it's really fun for everyone. In fact, the night before, Jeff and I got a babysitter and attended a Lady Antebellum concert as part of the Rodeo festivities. They have concerts going on every night that the rodeo is in town. They mostly have country acts, but they have some non-country too like this year they had Janet Jackson, Kiss, and Kid Rock. Anyway, it's fun and it was a blast to go with Connor again this year. Last year, he was just learning to pull up on things, so now that he's walking (i.e. running) it was a bit more fun.
We got to see a lot of animals, which really was his favorite part. There was an actual petting zoo, but he also just liked watching the animals. When we first arrived, there was a group of horses in the arena and he just watched them walking around almost mesmerized. It was really cute. He kept saying, "Neigh neigh, neigh neigh." Sweet boy. He was a bit clingy and nervous around all the crowds, but otherwise he had a great time. Of course what rodeo would be complete without some yummy fair food and of course a funnel cake. Mmmm. What a treat.
I should also mention that two weeks ago, Jeff and I got to jet-set off to Michigan for the night to attend my friend from college, Amy's wedding in Ann Arbor. Connor stayed with Grandma and Grandpa in College Station. Sadly, he was a bit sick, so he wasn't really himself, but they handled him just fine. Thanks for all the TLC Grandma and Grandpa. Sorry you had to deal with a sick kiddo. The crazy part of our trip is while we were there, it snowed about 6 inches! It was a full-on snow storm at one point. It was kind of fun for us though, because while Dallas got quite a bit of snow this year, we just saw ice, so one night of snow a year isn't bad. Hee hee.
I also want to mention that Jeff had quite an important birthday last week. He turned 30 years old on Thursday and the celebrations went on all week. We even got to see Pagger Don for the night on his actual birthday, because he was in town on business. Of course we had to go to Grimaldi's for Jeff's favorite pizza. It sure is delicious. I hope Jeff felt loved and appreciated by me and Connor, because he truly deserves lots of it. He's one amazing husband and Daddy. We're glad he was born, that's for sure.
Now enjoy some pictures we took these past couple of weeks.
Now him and his buddy Liam are checking out the ducks and turtles at the pond. They were fascinated.
Snowing in Ann Arbor for the wedding we attended. Good old Michigan. It was fun to be back on campus though and to see some old college friends.
On Friday night, we went to the Lady Antebellum concert. Here is a scene of the carnival stuff around the rodeo grounds. It's pretty expansive.
On Saturday morning we left our house bright and early and went to the rodeo. Our first stop was the arena to see if any competitions were going on and Connor found a pack of horses just walking around. He just stood watching them. He loved it. We knew it was going to be a good day.
Then later, a tractor was clearing another arena and Connor sat right down to watch. "Whoa, Duh duh."
I admit, I was a little nervous around the Llamas, but the handlers asked if Connor wanted to pet one, so we said "OK." They actually are very tame. I guess a lot of kids can raise them. Who knew?
In the petting zoo, Connor got to pet all kinds of animals from sheep, to goats, to pigs, to deer, to chickens, to ducks, you name it, they had it. It was pretty neat. He was always very gentle. I have no idea where he picked that up from, I guess Maizey, but he really was very good with them.
Wow, this one was really big. They all had handlers though, because bunnies aren't always very nice.
We couldn't get a good picture, because lately he wants to pull hats down over his eyes. Prime example.
Oh well. Here's a good picture. Connor had fun climbing around the backseat of a displayed Ford truck.
Now it's time for some yummy fair food. Corn dog, french fries, turkey leg, and a fresh squeezed lemonade. Yummy.
Back to the baby swings. He is mildly obsessed with baby swings at the moment. I sometimes have a hard time getting him to leave them when we're at the park.
