Literally at 9:30AM, I handed the teacher Connor, his diapers, sippy cup, lunch kit, and then hung his diaper bag (change of clothes, sleep sack, note about likes and dislikes, jacket, family photo, more diapers) and she said, "OK, goodbye Mom." That was my cue to leave. It was super quick.
I guess that works, because none of the kids in Connor's class were crying and when I left, neither was Connor. I even peaked in on him from the napping room and he seemed happy enough playing, so I think he'll adjust just fine.
My only concern is the napping. I am not sure how he'll do napping in one room with 4 other kids, but they say eventually they all get the hang of it, so I'm sure that's true.
I can't wait to hear how he did at the end of the day. I go back at 2pm to pick him up. I am really anxious to see how he did. I'll keep you all posted.
So Connor did soooo well at school. When I came to pick him up he was actually sleeping. I can't believe he fell asleep on the first day. I never expected him to sleep in a room full of other babies. What a good boy. They said he took the longest to fall asleep, but then he slept the longest and stayed asleep as the others got picked up, etc.
For him though, an hour and a half is nothing, considering he normally gets a 3 hour nap, so when they woke him up so I could take him, he was very groggy and a little unhappy.
They said he did so great though. He ate his lunch really well, which they said is actually unusual at school and he didn't fuss all day. He got along with the other kids and generally seemed to have fun. He had no poopy diapers, but wouldn't you know it, as soon as we got home he pooped. I guess he just needed to be back home in his own surroundings. Lucky for Mommy. Ha!
Anyway, they were happy to have him and said they couldn't wait for him to come back on Thursday. I picked up his belongings and a very groggy boy and we headed home. He was sooo tired in the car that I even tried to put him back to sleep when we got home, but he wouldn't go back to bed. Hopefully he'll take an extra long nap today to make up for it. We'll see. This whole short nap thing will be an adjustment I'm sure.
Each day he comes home with a report card and his first ever report card read like this:
Snack:
10:15AM
Goldfish: Yummo! (smiley face)
Diapers:
10:50AM Wet
11:50 Wet
Lunch:
11:30AM
What doesn't he like?! Ate great!
Nap:
12:25PM -
Talkative at first, but fell asleep well.
Overall Day:
Had a great day. No tears all day!
What a good boy. I'm looking forward to taking him back.
This is Connor ready for his first day of school, with his backpack/diaper bag. His little bag has his name on it and a tugboat. Isn't it precious. It was a birthday gift from one of my Mom friends. I love it.
It was a little heavy for Connor to wear and walk with, but he looked cute with it over his shoulders.
Connor ready for his first day of school. We dressed him in a pretty casual outfit, since they told us to put them in clothes we wouldn't mind getting dirty or ruining, since little kids often get dirty and eventually they will be painting and stuff. That's fine by me. He still looks cute as a button even in casual clothes.
